Despite my joking title, this is a common procedure known as "S turns". It's used at the pilot's discretion to provide some buffer between a departing and landing aircraft. |

|  | This is an early evening approach and landing onto Runway 31 at New York's LaGuardia Airport at the end of a flight from Charlotte NC, on an Airbus A321.
Many landmarks are visible; at the start of the video we are flying north over Brooklyn & Queens, with the camera facing west. We see New York harbor with its island and the towers of downtown Manhattan including the 3 major bridges.
We then reach northern Queens where we make a left turn and see the Unisphere globe sculpture at the old 1964 World's Fair site, the old Shea Stadium, and the new Shea Stadium under construction, before we finally land on Runway 31. |

 | Just after a storm blew through, with large hail and heavy rain, we heard this ear-splitting alarm. Didn't know whether it was from a security breach, problem with a plane, tornado warning. People were scared but didn't know what to do.
Turns out it was a malfunctioning fire alarm. I recorded this after the alarm had sounded for about a minute, with NO word or announcement telling us what it was. |
