The CAFÉ DE LA PRINCESA is housed in a 14th century palace in the Ribera district, between the Picasso Museum, the Born municipal market and the Santa María del Mar church.

The story of the Café begins in 1997 with the acquisition of a former palace at the corner of Flassaders and Sabateret streets by its current owners. At the time, these were somber, little-traveled alleyways compared to Moncada Street, the lively neighboring street where the Picasso Museum is located. In 1999, after extensive remodeling, the palace reopened its doors converted into a multi-purpose space where gastronomy, fashion, art and culture converge. The originality of the project attracted new businesses to the area and soon Flassaders and Sabateret were transformed into animated streets with varied commercial offerings.

The interior of the Café de la Princesa is divided into different zones which, nevertheless, maintain a visual and spatial continuity.

Within the space is the restaurant in a large atrium covered by a glass dome that lets in natural light. The tables, comfortably set off from each other, can seat a total of 130 people. The menu features Mediterranean dishes, based on fresh, local ingredients, with a few exotic touches. A fixed-price menu is available at midday. The same space is the site of cultural activities: painting and photography exhibits, presentations of books, gatherings and, during the dinner hour, live jazz performances.

In the shop, one can find men’s and women’s clothing from such prestigious designers as Julie Sohn and Sand, unique gift objects, folk art from different parts of Spain and all over the world (Poland, Germany, Morrocco, India, Nepal, Colombia, etc.), and furniture of our own design.

We continue to work enthusiastically to improve our services and, especially, to enhance our cultural offerings.

One of the most know tapas restaurant in Barcelona. Its reputation goes largely behind the city wall and it’s justified.. Everything is fresh and fun, the tapas, the people, the service, the wine.. Nothing to say just that you have to be there once otherwise you don’t know what tapas are. While waiting look the orders and make your menu. Every meal is a delight and every season a new pleasure that follows the market arrivals.. There is also the restaurant 'Cal Pep' next door with notorious fish and seafood dishes as well. Both are crowded, book, book, book at the restaurant or be patient at the bar but go there…

Cal Pep opens on Mondays 19:30 - 23:30, Tuesdays to Fridays 13:00 - 15:45 then opens again at 19:30 - 23:30, Saturdays at 13:15 - 15:45 and I guarantee there'll be a queue after 21:00 (Monday to Friday). You can reserve a table in the back room but there must be a minimum of 4 people. The only other option is to turn up and wait.

Els Quatre Gats was founded at the end of the 19th century and is based on the Parisian restaurant Le Chat Noir. It was traditionally considered as a restaurant for artists, bohemians and modernist intellectuals to meet which would explain why Pablo Picasso designed the front of the menu which is still used today. The restaurant offers a lunch menu as well as a menu of typical Catalan dishes.

This is a very original place with a New York ambience, specializing in bagels (sesame, poppy seed, plain, raisin, chocolate, etc.) and sandwiches filled or topped with the most varied ingredients, such as salmon, cream cheese, turkey, and vegetables. They also have vegetable soup, salads, cakes, lasagne and traditional desserts, such as apple pie. The shop is always packed with American tourists, although it is slowly but surely winning over locals - the bagel is still quite a novelty in Spain. It's a great place for non-New Yorkers to comment on their last trip to the Big Apple and reminisce over a bagel sandwich. There is no set menu and you can also get them to go.

One of the first bars to start the trend in serving typical Basque tapas called pintxos, this is just a little place but it's always packed. There's a great range of tasty snacks, including montaditos (like large canapes), available and the menu changes often. The fresh platters of food are set on the bar and you just dive in and take whatever appeals to you. When you're finished eating, count up the toothpicks left on your plate to find out how much you owe.

You'll be well fed and watered here at any time of day from breakfast to dinner. Look out for the huge blackboards that describe the salads and dishes of the day. It's a spacious bar-restaurant on a central corner site with large plate-glass windows and an outdoor terrace. You get a good idea of what people in Barcelona like to eat and drink by studying the menu. It offers a variety of tapas and raciones (larger sized tapas), platters of cheese, cold meats or roast vegetables and Fideuà...
