 | I was lucky enough to go to Spain in September. We did el Camino de Compostela (the last 110 kms), and then we drove through Northern Spain towards Barcelona.
Halfway through, we were exhausted and our planned stop (Santander) was impossible!
They had a huge soccer game going on and we really had a hard time trying to get in.
In the travel guide, that had a small paragraph about a coastal town nearby (20 minutes) called Laredo, that is popular with the neighboring larger towns of Santander and Bilbao.
So we went there. Surprisingly, they had a festival going on!
Celebrating the last arrival of Carlos V (he landed in Laredo on his last visit to Spain). It had crafts, music and food, all in a Renaissance flair.
Like a street festival and a Renaissance fair altogether! And some of the buildings were actually built during that time!
This is a video of part of the parade celebrating the arrival. Excuse the quality and the talking, I was a bit drunk on cider (really good cider ;-)) |
