Flamenco Dance at Seville (seviya), Spain
this was at a small theater in the Santa Cruz area in old city center of Seville. It was a one hour show based on traditional songs. As you notice, there is a lot of arabic influence in the songs. It was in a small place with about 80 viewers. We had an amazing experience. We were allowed to use cameras only in the last five minutes of the show.
Vista Point SEVILLA Spain Seville
VPG-DVD-177 - SEVILLA Seville is a gem of a city and Andalusia's most fascinating metropolis. In the centre of the old town is the Real Alcazar that was originally home to numerous Moorish monarchs and later the domicile of Spanish kings. It's said to be the oldest and most fascinating palace complex in the whole of Europe. Christopher Columbus was welcomed in the palace when he returned from his second voyage to America after having established a trading route with the New World. Its unique mixture of numerous cultures and époques augments the atmosphere of exquisite luxury. With its labyrinth of white alleys, Santa Cruz is the city's old Jewish district and is located close to both the Real Alcazar and the Catedral. Grated windows, flowerpots on the walls and old wooden gates are typical of this area of the city that exemplifies the traditional Andalusian way of life. The Plaza De Toros and the seasonal hustle and bustle of its bullfights, dominates the El Arenal, the city's former harbour district. Designed in the 18th century by Vicente San Martin, the bullfight arena was fully restored in the middle of the 19th century. The Giralda and the Patio De Los Naranjos are the only remains of Sevilla´s Almohadian Mosque. The rest of the temple was destroyed by the Christians. Construction began in 1401 and it became the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. After the Petersdom in Rome and St. Paul's in London it is the third largest Christian building in the world. With its rich cultural inheritance bequeathed by both the Moors and the Christians, Seville is a truly incredible city with a flamboyant way of life and fiery Latin temperament!
Spain 2006 Sevilla - Great Escape
During our holiday to El Rompido, Spain in August 2006 we visited Sevilla. We didn't enjoy it as most of the centre seemed to be a building site and we were marched around in a tour group by a very assertive German lady.
Tram of Seville
Seville (Spain) has a new tram system consisting of one line with a length of approx. 1.4 km for the time being (it is part of a greater project to build a metro network for Seville). The line runs through the center of Seville connecting the stations Prado de San Sebastián with Plaza Nueva. There are two stops along (Puerte de Jerez and Archivo de Indias). The tram opened in October 2007 after half a year of testing and is operated by four 100% low floor streetcars produced by CAF. Since the tracks are almost only within the pedestrean area the velocity is not very high, but the tram is accepted well in the population, since it is always heavily used -- even if every few minutes a new service starts from the endpoints.

Mi Escuela
My school in Spain
Universidad de Sevilla
The Universidad of Sevilla has been around since the start of the sixteenth century, and is currently the second largest in Spain. The university is spread over various campuses around the city, and the building shown here is the rectory, the administrative centre. It also houses the faculties of philology (language) and history, so I'm here every day - there are certainly worse places to study! The rectory itself has only been part of the university since the 1950s, though the building itself is much older, it was constructed in the 1700s as the royal tobacco factory; it is said that the cigarettes were rolled on the bare thighs of Sevillian maidens, a rumour which held a great deal of "romance" for sailors making port in Seville. Because of it's past, the building has unsurprisingly been dubbed "La Antigua Fabrica de Tabacos" or the Old Tobacco Factory.
